The Elevator
I'm on the 45th floor of an apartment building for the weekend. An unexpected yet pleasant turn of events calls for a late night dash to the store for coffee supplies. I go to the elevator and press the button to go down.
As the elevator approaches my floor from above I hear a chorus of singing and as the doors open see it full of people. Happy singing people on their way out for a night on the town.
I politely say I'll get the next one but they shuffle and insist I get in. "No, no don't wait, come in!" They don't look like serial killers, so I get in.
As the doors close the silence is broken by one lass asking "do you know a song?".
I think. Only one song comes to mind so I reply.
"The wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round".
The party comes alive again in all its choral glory - singing my choice for 45 floors.
Certainly a highlight.
